DESCRIPTION:

Date updated:12-30-2008

The Heartland Value Fund is an open-end fund incorporated in the USA. The fund invests in common stocks of companies with market capitalizations of less than $1.5 billion, selected on a value basis.

The fund has been up in 18 out of the last 23 years.

From Barron's (1-8-07): "Heartland Value (HRTVX), with $2 billion in assets, though the survivor of a nasty six-year-old scandal involving municipal funds, still produces top-grade long-range performance in the equity arena. William J. Nasgovitz, 62, its portfolio chief, says the fund has produced an average annual return of 15.7% over its 22-year history. The secret? Heavy doses of micro-caps, stocks with market values of $300 million or less. That, Nasgovitz asserts, is "where the best capital appreciation can occur."
