From Barron's 3-12-2007:

"For many folks, there's a remarkably simple and effective way to invest for the long term: Plunk your money in a "life-cycle" mutual fund. These funds, which first appeared in 1994 and are now offered by some 30 fund complexes, offer exposure to stocks, bonds and cash equivalents -- and they automatically switch to less risky allocations as you get older.

With Americans sprouting ever more gray hairs, life-cycle funds are themselves maturing quite nicely. The category's total net assets -- thanks to both appreciation and net-cash inflows -- surged from $8 billion in 2000 to $110 billion at the end of 2006, according to the Investment Company Institute. The assets jumped 63% last year alone."

Here are some select life-cycle funds.
