North American newsprint consumption showed its worst year-over-year decline in more than 5 years in February. In 2006 North American newsprint consumotion fell 6% and prices fell $20/tonne.Year to date in 2007,consumption has fallen 11% and prices have dropped $35 per tonne.Continued weakness in ad revenues,declines in circulation,and publisgers' conservation efforts combined with secular shift to technology have driven demand lower.Companies that produce newsprint include, Abitibi, Bowater.
